Obituary for James Alan Legear

James Alan Legear
James Alan Legear age 93, died Sunday July 16, 2017 in Berea. Alan was a long-time parts manager for Mountain Auto Parts and Car Quest Auto Parts in Berea, he was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during World War II as a Communications Sargent with the 24th Infantry Division, 21st R.C.T., 3rd Battalion, I Co. Alan’s Military Medals include: Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal w/3 Bronze Stars, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Marksman Badge w/Rifle Bar, he was part of five different beach head invasions in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, Alan’s particular battalion faced 63 straight days of active fighting during his time in the Pacific Theater. Alan was preceded in death by his wife Trula Faye McCracken Legear, and his parents Thomas and Ethel Harding Legear. He was also preceded in death by a grandson William Baxter Jennings, and his siblings Alberta Legear Swinford, Madalyn Legear Abrams, and Jerry W. Legear.
Alan is survived by his son James Burton (Brenda) Legear and his daughter Gail (Mike) Kanarak, his brothers: Benton Legear, Herbert Legear, and Clyde Legear, his grandchildren: Chadwick Thomas Legear, Amanda (Brad) Delozier, and Sarah (Brad) Nally, and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the 3rd floor and ICU nursing staff of St. Joe Hospital in Berea, KY for their loving care and exceptional kindness and professionalism.
Funeral services will be Thursday July 20, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Bethel Baptist Church in Berea with Rev. Kenny Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Madison County Memorial Gardens with military honors. Pallbearers will be Hoop Hensley, Rusty Brandenburg, Jimmy Fritz, Randy Linville, Chad Legear, and Larry Freeman. Honorary Pallbearers are Kenneth Abbott Sr., and the Men’s Sunday School Class at Bethel Baptist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 pm at Lakes Funeral Home.
