Van Potter, age 85, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 at his daughter’s home in Saint Paul, Virginia.
Van was born in Knott County, Kentucky to the late Lewis and Polly Ann Bentley Potter. He was a retired pipefitter for the East Ohio Gas Company and a U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Nancy Bowman Potter; one son, Ricky Potter; two grandsons, Jared Potter and Larry C. Bowman; six siblings, Patrick Potter, frank Potter, Louie Potter, Elmer Potter, his twin brother Burn Potter and Elsie Hunsucker.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Debbie) Potter, Larry (Carla) Bowman, Kathie Crews, and Glenda (Wayne) Lane; one sister Mae Fleming; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11am, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Himes officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-9pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ron Register, Adam Potter, Carey Lane, Wayne Lane, Dale Potter, and Gary Fleming. Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren, great grandchildren and two special caregivers, Lisa Kantsos and April Ingram.
