Verna Rucker Burnell, 86, of Wilson Lane, passed away January 24, 2018 at her home. She was born in the Red Lick area of Madison County, Kentucky, to the late Willie and Carey Hisel Rucker. She had been a framer at Teresa’s Antiques and had owned and operated Burnell Grain and Building Company with her husband for over 30 years. She was a member of the Pilot Knob Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by two children, Barry Burnell and Carrie Sanders; and two sisters, Thelma Clemmons and Alene Goodrich.
Verna is survived by her husband of over 68 years, Anthony W. Burnell; one son, Roger Burnell; several caregivers: Loretta Powell, Haley Litten, Beverly Bray, Vickie Spivey, and Connie Rose; and a special friend, Angie Chasteen.
Funeral services for Verna Rucker Burnell will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 26, 2018, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Those serving as pallbearers will be: Jordan Chasteen, Wesley Chasteen, Dennis Minter, Kenny McHone, George Goodrich, and Larry Goodrich.
